Blast from the Past
The article was written by our Malaysian Pioneer Underground scene, Joe Kidd for The Sun Papers. Yep, this is my band back in the 90's, Groover's Lum. We're just a bunch of high school kids trying hard to contribute our music into the underground scene back home. Nothing more, nothing less, just pure Britpop stoned-heads. I bet it's funny or ear-soaring to hear it again. It was a "LIVE" recording at Les Paul Music Studio for 50 Ringgit an hour. Yep, we did it in an hour. I think it was somewhere in mid 1995. I'm not sure. Don't expect the music, guitar work and the out-of-pitch voice was well recorded like these days.
A guy named Mohd. Zainol tagged me in Facebook today and i was like..."Holy S**t!" and .......i start to recall..and...recall the moment back then.
What can i say? I don't even have this article anymore. Maybe missing or it just been thrown away somewhere. I still have the "Master Tapes" or shall i say "Demo Tapes" thou. Sadly, i don't have the player for the tapes (cassette).
If it does some good impact or it pleased others ears, i would like to say "Thank You" for buying it from me through post and supporting us. If not, Thank You again...well...it doesn't bother me at all. At that time, we tried hard, we did it with fun and we love the music in the way what we want it to be. Hah! I bet people call it "shoegaze" by now. Thank you Joe. Thank you Zainol. It does brought back some good memories and it does meant so much to me and to the band.

casio oh casio
CASIO Handheld Games
Back in the 80's, to own a Casio Handheld games was like to own a PSP or Nintendo DS nowadays. Still, the best all of them and still my personal favourite game, the "Western Bar". Nothing much on the controls, left-right then shoot 'em up. Avoid been knocked out by an apple or an ashtray or...shooting at the flying dynamite. Drunked bastard Sheriffs with a bottle in the hand (oh, the bottle will help you to put out the dynamite's burning fuse).
Yeah, i had one of these games before. Until one day, i had this fucking brilliant idea to wired it to a 240v home wall-socket, thinking that i won't use any batteries anymore. Yep, it blew of the LCD screen. Smart ass. 3v goes 240v. My late Dad says " see? you're too smart ain't you? You think you can fix things, and you had this brilliant idea. " I was like...( a smack to the face ).
Seriously, i did fix some of my friend's handheld games back then. No shouldering, just sticking tapes. no bull no shit man. Ya know, when you're a kid, you just love to open everything up. Curiosity does pays off.

Fender American Traditional Telecaster
My very first own, Fender Telecaster. Bought somewhere 2000's for around say, USD$500-700. I know it wasn't meant to come along with a hardcase but the guitar store gave me a Gator case with it & a pedal, Boss's X-Tortion (i hate it and sold it off). It's kinda hard to do some research on this model. If there's someone, who knew on the details, well, do let me know. Serial number starts from N 9 + 5 digits. It could be 1990 0r 1999 as N 9 + 5 or 6 as 1999.
On the headstock does indicate that it was made in the US. It came with a small decal says, American Traditional. Maple neck, poplar body. Colour, Midnight Wine. Topload six saddle bridge. Weight, wow...it's heavier than American Standard (Series).
So far as i know, it was meant for exports. Europe, Australia, N.Z & other part of Asia.
As i dig more on other guitar's forum regarding this, it was like, from the US, shipped to Mexico, back again to the States for completion, then off it goes as export models. Some say it came with lower grades hardware. So far at that time, the sound was good. Less twang and darker tone on the neck pickup. It has been used in the studio work too.
After a few years, i've changed the stock pickups to Lace Sensor. Changed the pots (500k), switch & knobs too (Dome). But now, i've decided to put back some Fender's pickup again. Most probably i'll go for Original Vintage pups. Again, changed the pots (250k) & knobs.
Again, the guitar has it's own magic & characteristic. Totally different than the one i owned later, an American Series.
